Pine Bluff Surgical Tech Program
Jefferson County Surgical Tech Program
71603 Surgical Tech Program
The Surgical Technology program at Southeast Arkansas College is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as integral members of the surgical team. The curriculum covers a broad range of essential topics, including surgical instrumentation, sterile technique, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and surgical procedures across various specialties. A significant portion of the program is dedicated to hands-on clinical experience, where students gain practical skills in real-world surgical settings under the guidance of qualified professionals. This clinical immersion typically takes place at area hospitals and surgical centers, providing invaluable exposure to the fast-paced and demanding environment of the operating room.
Graduates of the Surgical Technology program are prepared to assist surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals before, during, and after surgical procedures. A key component of the program is preparation for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination, administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Earning the CST credential is often a prerequisite for employment. Upon completion of the program, graduates are well-positioned to pursue rewarding careers as Surgical Technologists in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and other healthcare facilities. The program typically requires approximately two years to complete and results in an Associate of Applied Science degree or certificate.
