St. Petersburg College’s Surgical Services A.S. Degree is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career as a surgical technologist. Developed in collaboration with BayCare, the program offers a unique blend of classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and clinical experience with community medical partners. Students gain hands-on experience in a simulated operating room environment, learning to assist surgeons and other surgical personnel under supervision. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and the application of aseptic techniques, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to enter the workforce. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Certifying Examination for Surgical Technologists, becoming Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs). This program not only prepares students for immediate employment but also encourages them to contribute to the economic development and stability of their communities through skilled service in the surgical field.
