The Surgical Technology program at Triton College equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as vital members of surgical teams. This program prepares students to provide safe and efficient patient care in the operating room. Students delve into the principles of asepsis, instrumentation, surgical procedures, and patient safety protocols. The program typically includes classroom instruction, laboratory simulations, and extensive clinical rotations in affiliated hospitals and surgical centers. Through hands-on experience, students learn to prepare the operating room, sterilize instruments, assist surgeons during procedures, and maintain a sterile environment. Graduates of the Surgical Technology program are prepared to sit for the national Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination. Upon successful completion, graduates can pursue careers as Surgical Technologists in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and clinics. The program often takes approximately two years to complete, culminating in an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree, although certificate options might also exist.
