The Surgical Technology program at Kirkwood Community College prepares students to become integral members of the surgical team. This rigorous program focuses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to assist surgeons in the operating room, ensuring a safe and sterile environment for patients. Students will learn about surgical instruments, sterile technique, anatomy and physiology, and various surgical procedures. Through a combination of classroom instruction, laboratory simulations, and clinical rotations in real healthcare settings, students will gain hands-on experience and confidence in their abilities. The program typically leads to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and prepares graduates to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam. Upon successful completion of the program and certification, graduates can pursue careers as surgical technologists in hospitals, surgical centers, and other healthcare facilities, assisting surgeons and contributing to positive patient outcomes.
