Hopkinsville Community College’s Surgical Technology program equips students with the essential skills and knowledge to excel as vital members of the surgical team. This comprehensive program focuses on preparing students to assist surgeons by ensuring the operating room is ready with the appropriate instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies. Students gain hands-on experience in instrument handling, sterilization techniques, and maintaining a safe operating room environment. They learn to anticipate the needs of the surgical team by passing instruments, holding retractors, cutting sutures, and meticulously counting instruments, needles, and sponges. Upon graduation and following completion of prerequisites in just two semesters, students are prepared to assist in a variety of surgical procedures.
