Chesapeake College’s Surgical Technology program equips students with the knowledge and skills to excel as vital members of the surgical team. This comprehensive Associate of Applied Science degree blends classroom instruction with extensive clinical fieldwork, preparing graduates to assist surgeons before, during, and after life-saving procedures. Students learn to maintain a sterile environment, prepare and pass instruments, and anticipate the needs of the surgical team. The program places a strong emphasis on patient safety, ethical practice, and the development of a “surgical conscience.” Beyond technical proficiency, graduates will develop crucial communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Successful completion of the program prepares students to sit for the NBSTSA certification exam, opening doors to a rewarding career assisting in a wide range of surgical specialties and contributing to positive patient outcomes.
