Grand Rapids Community College’s Surgical Technology program offers a unique pathway to a rewarding healthcare career. This Associate of Applied Arts and Sciences degree is employer-sponsored, meaning acceptance is contingent on securing an apprenticeship with a participating healthcare provider, ensuring immediate practical experience. The program follows an apprenticeship model, blending theoretical knowledge with extensive hospital-based clinical education. As part of the EPiC Consortium, the curriculum is designed to meet rigorous standards and may lead to eligibility for the national board exam. Uniquely, the program includes coursework towards a Sterile Processing Certificate, enhancing graduates’ skill set and marketability. Through hands-on learning and a collaborative network of hospitals and educational institutions, GRCC’s Surgical Technology program equips students with the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills necessary to thrive as entry-level surgical technologists in today’s dynamic healthcare environment.
