The Surgical Technology program at Saint Louis Community College provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become valuable members of the surgical team. This comprehensive program prepares individuals to assist surgeons during operative procedures by maintaining a sterile environment, handling surgical instruments, and ensuring patient safety. Students learn essential concepts such as surgical asepsis, anatomy and physiology, surgical pharmacology, and surgical procedures across various specialties. The curriculum incorporates hands-on training in a simulated operating room, allowing students to practice their skills in a controlled setting. A significant portion of the program is dedicated to clinical rotations at hospitals and surgical centers throughout the St. Louis area, providing real-world experience working alongside surgeons and other healthcare professionals. Typically completed in two years, the program culminates in an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, enabling graduates to pursue careers as surgical technologists in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and other surgical settings. Graduates will likely be prepared and eligible to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam, enhancing their employment opportunities.
