Newton County Surgical Tech Program
64850 Surgical Tech Program
The Surgical Technology program at Crowder College prepares students for a rewarding career as a vital member of the surgical team. This comprehensive program equips individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist surgeons during a variety of operative procedures. Students will learn about surgical instruments, sterilization techniques, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and pharmacology. A significant portion of the program is dedicated to hands-on training in simulated operating room settings, allowing students to practice and refine their skills before entering a real surgical environment. Clinical rotations at local hospitals and surgical centers provide invaluable experience, exposing students to diverse surgical specialties and patient populations. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam, a nationally recognized credential that enhances their career prospects. Graduates can find employment opportunities in hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and other healthcare settings, working alongside surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide safe and effective patient care. The program typically takes one to two years to complete and may lead to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.
