Atlantic County Surgical Tech Program
Surgical Tech Program
The Surgical Technology program at Atlantic Cape Community College prepares students to become integral members of the surgical team. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience, students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to assist surgeons during a variety of surgical procedures. The curriculum emphasizes sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. Students will learn how to prepare the operating room, sterilize instruments, anticipate the needs of the surgical team, and ensure a safe and sterile environment. Typically, the program culminates in an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and takes approximately two years to complete. A significant portion of the program involves clinical rotations at local hospitals and surgical centers, providing students with invaluable real-world experience. Graduates of the program are well-prepared to pursue entry-level positions as surgical technologists in hospitals, surgical centers, and other healthcare settings. Successful completion often leads to eligibility to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination, enhancing career prospects. The program strives to provide a comprehensive and supportive learning environment, ensuring graduates are ready to meet the demands of a dynamic healthcare field.
