The Surgical Technology program at Robeson Community College equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as integral members of a surgical team. This comprehensive 66-credit hour program combines theoretical learning with hands-on clinical experience, preparing graduates to assist surgeons in the operating room by ensuring sterile environments and expertly managing surgical instruments and equipment. Students will learn to apply their understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and microbiology to anticipate the needs of the surgical team. A key component of the program is practical experience, requiring students to participate in a minimum of 120 surgical cases across diverse specialties, developing proficiency in both first and second scrub roles. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification exam, opening doors to fulfilling careers in operating rooms and surgical centers. With a focus on cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains, the program ensures graduates are well-prepared for the demands of the surgical technology profession and dedicated to patient safety and well-being.
