Berkeley County Surgical Tech Program
25403 Surgical Tech Program
The Surgical Tech program at James Rumsey Technical Institute provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as vital members of the surgical team. This program is designed to prepare students for a challenging yet rewarding career in the operating room. Students will learn the principles of aseptic technique, surgical instrumentation, anatomy and physiology, and surgical procedures across various specialties. A strong emphasis is placed on hands-on training in a simulated operating room environment, allowing students to develop proficiency in preparing the operating room, assisting surgeons, and maintaining a sterile field. A critical component of the program is clinical rotations, where students gain real-world experience in local hospitals and surgical centers, working alongside experienced professionals. Typically, the program culminates in eligibility to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam, a nationally recognized credential. Upon graduation, students are well-prepared to pursue entry-level positions as surgical technologists in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and other healthcare facilities, contributing to safe and efficient surgical patient care.
