The Surgical Technology program at Waukesha County Technical College is a comprehensive 65-credit Associate of Applied Science degree designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as a surgical technologist. This program focuses on assisting surgeons in the operating room and develops a strong foundation in human anatomy, microbiology, and medical terminology. Students learn to identify and handle surgical instruments and equipment, preparing them for the demanding yet rewarding role. A key component of the program is the extensive clinical experience, where students complete a minimum of 120 surgical rotation cases, immersing themselves in real-world surgical environments. WCTC’s Surgical Technology program has been recognized for its excellence, earning a merit award for its graduates’ exceptional pass rate on the national certification exam. Upon graduation, students are eligible to take the national certification exam and pursue careers as surgical technologists, surgical first assistants, or surgical equipment sales representatives.
