Gadsden State Community College is launching an Associate of Applied Science degree in Surgical Technology, anticipated to begin in Fall 2025 with the inaugural class starting January 2026. This comprehensive program prepares students to become integral members of surgical teams, working under medical supervision to ensure safe and effective surgical procedures. Students will learn the essential principles of sterile technique, surgical anatomy, and the application of tools and technologies used in the operating room. The curriculum combines classroom instruction with extensive clinical practicums, providing students with hands-on experience in various surgical specialties at affiliated hospitals and surgery centers. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to take the national certification examination and pursue careers as surgical technologists in a variety of settings, including hospital operating rooms, outpatient surgery centers, and physicians’ offices. Gadsden State’s program aims to equip graduates with the knowledge, skills, and professional demeanor necessary to excel in this demanding and rewarding allied health profession.
