The Surgical Technology program at Southern University at Shreveport is a comprehensive 72-hour, 22-month program culminating in an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), this program provides students with the essential knowledge and skills to excel in the surgical technology field. The curriculum is designed to equip participants for entry-level positions, blending theoretical coursework with intensive hands-on training. A unique feature is the pathway for students with prior coursework in Medical Technology, English, and Human Anatomy and Physiology to expedite their entry into the program. The program culminates in three semesters of clinical skills training in the operating rooms of local hospitals, as well as a summer seminar specifically designed to prepare graduates for the National Certification in Surgical Technology (CST), maximizing their employment opportunities.
