Surgical Tech Program
The Surgical Technology Associate Degree program at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) offers a comprehensive pathway to a rewarding career in the operating room. In partnership with Maine Medical Center (MMC), this program combines SMCC’s general education courses with specialized surgical technology training provided by MMC. Students will develop expertise in aseptic techniques, patient care, and surgical procedures, preparing them to assist surgeons and other medical professionals during operations. The program includes hands-on clinical rotations at MMC and other surgical sites, providing invaluable real-world experience. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification exam and pursue careers as surgical technologists in hospitals, private practices, and other medical settings. The program provides a strong foundation for career advancement and further education, with opportunities to transfer to four-year institutions. Please note that the MMC clinical portion of the program is not eligible for financial aid.
