The Surgical Technology program at Great Plains Technology Center is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to excel as integral members of the surgical team. This comprehensive program typically lasts around two years, blending classroom instruction with extensive hands-on training in a simulated operating room environment and real-world clinical rotations. Students delve into surgical instrumentation, sterilization procedures, aseptic techniques, anatomy, physiology, and a wide range of surgical specialties. Emphasis is placed on understanding surgical procedures, anticipating the surgeon’s needs, and maintaining a sterile environment to ensure patient safety. The program prepares graduates to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam, a nationally recognized credential.
