Howard College’s Surgical Technology program, based in San Angelo, prepares students for a vital role as Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) within the operating team. This CAAHEP-accredited program provides a comprehensive curriculum encompassing pre-, intra-, and postoperative surgical care. Students learn to maintain surgical field integrity, prepare instruments, and assist surgeons, all while working under their direction. The program features a blend of classroom instruction and intense clinical experiences, providing hands-on training in various surgical specialties. All non-surgical technology courses must be completed prior to the clinical component of the program, and program applicants must meet specific prerequisite requirements. Graduates are eligible to sit for the CST exam, making them highly competitive in the healthcare field. With a limited class size of 10 students per year, the program offers a focused and supportive learning environment. A criminal background clearance and drug screening are required.
