The Surgical Technology program at South Plains College provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as integral members of the surgical team. This comprehensive program equips students with a thorough understanding of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and aseptic techniques. Students gain hands-on experience through simulated lab environments and extensive clinical rotations in affiliated hospitals and surgical centers, working alongside surgeons and other healthcare professionals. The curriculum covers topics such as anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, patient care, and surgical specialty areas. Typically, the program leads to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and prepares graduates to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam.
